According to a report by the Brazilian Society of Cardiology (SBC), cardiovascular diseases, such as heart attacks, strokes, and sudden death, account for 30% of deaths in the country. In 2023 alone, the SBC's "Cardiometer" platform recorded more than 280,330 deaths related to these illnesses, offering a real-time visualization of the impact of these conditions.
Within this group of heart diseases, heart attacks accounted for approximately 70% of hospitalizations in all public and private hospitals in the country, registering an increase of more than 150% in hospitalizations for this condition between 2008 and 2022.
Part of these percentages may be linked to the neglect of healthcare inherited from the isolation period of the Covid-19 pandemic. A study by Abramet (Brazilian Association of Diagnostic Medicine) in collaboration with the SUS (Brazilian Public Health System), mentioned on the SBC (Brazilian Society of Cardiology) website, reveals that the Covid-19 pandemic resulted in a 28.5% decrease in HDL cholesterol level tests in 2020 compared to 2019, indicating increasing neglect of health.
Following the guidelines of the Ministry of Health, such as adopting a healthy diet, exercising regularly, maintaining a healthy weight, avoiding smoking, and detecting risk factors early, are fundamental measures for successful diagnosis and treatment.
