Today is the National Day of Struggle for People with Disabilities, a date that aims to raise awareness about the importance of developing ways to include people with disabilities in society.
The initiative emerged from the Movement for the Rights of People with Disabilities – MDPD in the early 1980s, which had been debating since then how prejudice and inaccessibility make life difficult for people with disabilities.
A person with a disability is someone who has limitations or incapacities in performing activities and requires comprehensive care that includes actions for health promotion, prevention, assistance, rehabilitation, and maintenance.
